Today marks the Fête du Quatorze Juillet - what Americans call Bastille Day.  André and Jeanne Salmon married on the eve of this holiday to take advantage of the festivities in the streets of Paris.  The couple wed in the Saint Merri Church, in the Marais, followed by a luncheon with Jeanne's mother and a few friends, including Guillaume Apollinaire who commemorated the occasion with his now famous "Poème lu au mariage d'Andre Salmon."    André Salmon's parents did not attend, as they were not content with his choice for a partner in life. The marriage wasn't perfect.  Nevertheless, André and Jeanne remained married until Jeanne's death on January 1, 1949.

Last year, we posted Jeanne's story published in the Marie Laurencin exhibition catalogue which accompanied her retrospective at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, October 22, 2023 - January 21, 2024.

Bonne Féte du 14 Juillet à tous!
Joyeux anniversaire de mariage à Jeanne et André Salmon!

Avec nos meilleurs vœux
La bande à Salmon
